One of the most important logistics methods that enable global trade to take place quickly, safely and cost-effectively is container transportation. Developed in the mid-20th century, this system revolutionized the transportation of goods and today, more than 90% of the world trade volume is carried out through containers.
What is Container Transportation?
Container transportation is the transportation of goods in standard-sized steel boxes (usually 20 feet or 40 feet) by land, sea, air or rail. Containers can have different designs depending on the type of goods (e.g. refrigerated containers, open-top containers, tank containers).
Container Transportation in Turkey
Turkey is an important logistics bridge between the East and the West due to its geographical location. Large seaports such as Istanbul, Izmir, Mersin and Ambarli ports are strategically important in terms of container transportation. In addition, investments in railway transportation and projects such as the "Middle Corridor" increase Türkiye's potential in this area.
