Refrigerated (Cold Chain) Transportation: The Cornerstone of Temperature-Controlled Logistics

Cold chain transportation, or refrigerated transportation, is vital for the safe transportation of perishable or temperature-sensitive products such as food, medicine, medical products and chemicals. This type of transportation ensures that products are transported under appropriate temperature conditions from production to the end user.

What is Refrigerated Transportation?

Refrigerated transportation is a type of transportation carried out with specially insulated and refrigerated vehicles that ensure that products remain within a certain temperature range during transportation. The word “frigo” comes from the French word “frigidaire” (refrigerator) and refers to refrigerated transportation in the sector.

What is Cold Chain?

Cold chain is an integrated logistics system in which the temperature is kept under control in all processes (storage, transportation, distribution) from the production of the product to its delivery to the consumer. If temperature control is disrupted in any link of this chain, the quality, safety and shelf life of the product are at risk.

Refrigerated Vehicle Features

  • Insulated Trailers: Minimize heat transfer.
  • Cooling unit: Temperatures between -25°C and +25°C can be provided
  • Temperature monitoring devices: Instantaneous temperature measurements can be made and recorded inside the vehicle.
  • Double compartment system: Products with two different temperatures can be transported in the same vehicle (for example +4°C and -18°C).
  • Refrigerated Transportation in Turkey

Refrigerated transportation in Turkey is especially common in the export and retail sectors. Most intensively used areas:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetable transportation from the Aegean and Mediterranean regions
  • Pharmaceutical sector (vaccine and medicine transportation)
  • Cold chain logistics of large retail chains
  • In addition, regular refrigerated transportation is carried out from Turkey to European countries (especially to markets such as Germany, France, and the Netherlands).
